U.S. equity futures rose on Sunday evening as Wall Street prepared for an especially busy week that’ll bring earnings from several major tech companies, a key Federal Reserve meeting, President Donald Trump’s Aug. 1 tariff deadline and key inflation data.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 180 points, or 0.4%. S&P 500 futures were also higher by 0.3% and Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.4%.

The move comes after Trump announced Sunday that the U.S. has reached an agreement with the European Union to lower tariffs to 15%. The president had previously threatened 30% tariffs on most imported goods from the U.S.’s largest trading partner.

Wall Street is also coming off a winning week fueled by strong earnings and recent deals between the U.S. and other trading partners, including Japan and Indonesia.

On Friday, all three of the major averages finished the day and week with gains. The blue-chip Dow climbed 208.01 points, or 0.47%, to settle at 44,901.92. The broad market S&P 500 gained 0.40% to close at 6,388.64, marking its fifth consecutive day of closing records and 14th record close of the year. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.24% to 21,108.32 for its 15th record close of the year.

“A healthy plethora of earnings beats, positive developments in U.S.-Japan trade relations, strong capex commentary, and a bullish “AI Action Plan” kept the enthusiasm of weeks’ past stronger than ever,” Nick Savone of Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Equity Division said in a note over the weekend.

“As we push through the bulk of S&P 500 companies still due to report, the lower bar heading into this season has admittedly kept spirits high, but stock reactions still look most principally rooted in forward guidance — especially as investors brace, time and again, for the impact of these trade headlines to flow through.”

The market is gearing up for the busiest week of earnings season. More than 150 companies in the S&P 500 are due to post their quarterly results, including “Magnificent Seven” names Meta Platforms and Microsoft on Wednesday, followed by Amazon and Apple on Thursday. Investors will be listening for companies’ comments on AI spending for direction on whether big investments in hyperscalers this year are justified.

This week, the Fed will also hold its two-day policy meeting, concluding on Wednesday. Although the central bank is expected to keep interest rates at their current target range of 4.25% to 4.5%, investors will be looking for clues about whether a rate cut could be on the table at the September meeting.

Tariffs and their effect on inflation will remain in focus on Thursday as traders get the June personal consumption expenditures price (PCE) index, the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation. The report is expected to show inflation rising to 2.4% from 2.3% year-over-year, according to FactSet, and to 0.31% from 0.14% on a monthly basis.

Investors will also get a batch of jobs-related data this week, including the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, on Tuesday, ADP’s private payrolls report on Wednesday, initial jobless claims Thursday and, on Friday, the critical July jobs report. Economists polled by FactSet anticipate the U.S. economy added 115,000 jobs in July, down from 147,000 in June. The unemployment rate is expected to show a slight bump to 4.2% from 4.1%.

Sources – Packers’ Micah Parsons has joint sprain in his back

Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons has been dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back and he may receive a facet injection before Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions if needed to help him play, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Before trading Parsons last week, the Dallas Cowboys prescribed him a five-day course of prednisone, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid to help him recover from back tightness. They also had him on a physical therapy program.

Parsons has been practicing this week, and he is trying to play Sunday, although one source told Schefter it still is not certain if he will.

The Packers traded two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to the Cowboys last Thursday to acquire Parsons. Green Bay then signed him to a four-year, $188 million contract extension that includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and $136 million in total guarantees, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, sources told ESPN.

The move occurred after a training camp hold-in when Parsons sat out of Cowboys practices because of back tightness.

Parsons flew to Green Bay on Friday, passed his physical and signed his contract. He picked No. 1 for his jersey, becoming the second Packers player to wear that number and first since Curly Lambeau in 1925-26.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky contributed to this report.

Ahead of the celebration, Moretz opened up to Vogue about how she and Harrison planned to personalize the festivities.

‘A big part of the wedding [is about] sharing things that Kate and I love with everyone that’s going to be there,’ she explained. ‘So there’s fishing, horseback riding and poker. True to tradition, the pair didn’t get a sneak peek at each other’s dresses beforehand, even though they were in Paris at the same time for their fittings.

For their wedding, Moretz stunned in a blue dress inspired by her Old Hollywood vision.

‘I honestly don’t even know if words can put together how I feel,’ she admitted. ‘The birth of the color [blue] started when I went to the Academy Gala with LV, and I wore this blue leather dress. I remember immediately talking to [my stylist] Nell, and I was like, maybe we should think about doing this [color for my wedding].’

The actress said she never saw herself as a ‘white dress bride.’

‘It just feels like me,’ she said. ‘I knew I would do something non-traditional, and not wear white, and kind of have it feel different, and I think it really does.’

The couple, who have largely kept their romance out of the spotlight, celebrated their nuptials surrounded by family, friends, and plenty of personal touches.

After nearly seven years together, Moretz said what she cherishes most is the promise to keep choosing each other every day.

‘I think what I’m most looking forward to about getting married is just being together,’ she reflected. ‘Making this promise to each other in a new way, and exchanging these vows.’

Nestlé Board appoints Philipp Navratil as CEO following the departure of Laurent Freixe

Nestlé’s Board of Directors today announces that Philipp Navratil has been appointed as CEO of Nestlé, S.A., following the dismissal of Laurent Freixe with immediate effect.

The departure of Laurent Freixe follows an investigation into an undisclosed romantic relationship with a direct subordinate which breached Nestlé’s Code of Business Conduct. In line with best practice corporate governance, the Board ordered an investigation overseen by Chairman Paul Bulcke and Lead Independent Director, Pablo Isla, with the support of independent outside counsel.

Paul Bulcke, Chairman, stated: “This was a necessary decision. Nestlé’s values and governance are strong foundations of our company. I thank Laurent for his years of service at Nestlé.”

He continued: “I am pleased to announce Philipp Navratil as CEO. Philipp is recognized for his impressive track record of achieving results in challenging environments. Renowned for his dynamic presence, he inspires teams and leads with a collaborative, inclusive management style. The Board is confident that he will drive our growth plans forward and accelerate efficiency efforts. We are not changing course on strategy and we will not lose pace on performance.”

Philipp Navratil began his career with Nestlé in 2001 as an internal auditor. After holding various commercial roles in Central America, he was appointed Country Manager for Nestlé Honduras in 2009. In 2013, Philipp Navratil assumed leadership of the coffee and beverage business in Mexico, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening the Nescafé brand. In 2020, he transitioned to Nestlé’s Coffee Strategic Business Unit, where he was responsible for shaping the global strategy and driving innovation for Nescafé and Starbucks coffee brands. He assumed his position at Nespresso in July 2024, where he has accelerated growth and built strong momentum. Philipp Navratil joined the Nestlé Executive Board on January 1, 2025.

Philipp Navratil, CEO of Nestlé, added: “I am honored by the trust the Board has placed in me, and it is a privilege to take on the responsibility of leading Nestlé into the future. I fully embrace the company’s strategic direction, as well as the action plan in place to drive Nestlé’s performance. I look forward to working closely with the entire leadership of the company, in alignment with the Board, Chairman Paul Bulcke, and Chairman-Designate Pablo Isla, to accelerate execution and to drive the value creation plan with intensity.”
