Is Newark airport open? Here’s what travellers need to know
Newark Liberty International Airport is open, but many travellers are facing problems. If you’re flying soon, there are some things you should be aware of.
Runway work causing delays
One of the main runways at Newark is closed for repairs. This started in April and will continue until mid-June. Because of this, fewer flights can land or take off, so delays and cancellations are more likely.
Staff shortages making things worse
There is also a shortage of air traffic controllers. These are the people who help planes take off and land safely. Many are off work due to stress and recent problems at nearby airports. This is slowing down flights and making the situation harder to manage.
Technical glitches add to the chaos
In late April, a technical problem with radar and radios caused major delays. Some flights had to be diverted. Experts say the airport’s systems need big upgrades.
Fewer flights allowed
Because of all these issues, the US government has limited the number of flights at Newark. Right now, only 28 arrivals and 28 departures are allowed each hour. This will increase to 34 flights per hour in June and continue through October.

United Airlines, which flies the most from Newark, has cancelled 35 round-trip flights per day to help ease pressure on the airport.
The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has made several changes to fix the technical issues. They updated the software and added new fibre optic cables, which have helped keep the radar working, even during later problems. However, a long-term solution will take more time. They plan to build a new radar system at the Philadelphia centre that controls flights in and out of Newark Airport. This could take months, and even then, the old systems might still be at risk.
FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau said, “Our goal is to relieve the substantial inconvenience to the traveling public from excessive flight delays due to construction, staffing challenges, and recent equipment issues, which magnify as they spread through the National Airspace System,” as reported by Newjersey101.5 report.
What you should do
• Check your flight before leaving home.
• Arrive early, especially if flying internationally.
• Stay updated through your airline’s app or website.
Newark Airport is still running, but it’s facing serious problems. If you’re travelling soon, plan ahead to avoid any last-minute trouble.

Bengaluru–Hyderabad in 2 hours, High-Speed Rail to cut travel time drastically, top speed to be…, Government plans to…

Bengaluru–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will cut the travel time between the two cities from 19 hours to 2 hours
New Delhi: Travel time between Hyderabad and Bengaluru is set to be cut dramatically. Reports suggest that the journey, which currently takes 19 hours, will soon be completed in just 2 hours. The government is soon to construct the Bengaluru–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail Corridor. Modeled after the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this corridor will be completed by March 2026 and then submitted to the Railway Board and subsequently to the central government.
Once the Bengaluru–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project is completed, travel will not only become faster but also make people’s lives easier. For this 626-kilometer-long elevated corridor, the final survey and alignment work is being carried out by RITES Limited. The plan is that once the DPR is ready, it will be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for approval.
Here are some of the key details:
- Bengaluru–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will cut the travel time between the two cities from 19 hours to 2 hours
- For this 626-kilometer-long elevated corridor, the final survey and alignment work is being carried out by RITES Limited.
- The plan is that once the DPR is ready, it will be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for approval.
- On the Bengaluru–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, the train will run at a design speed of 350 kmph and an operating speed of 320 kmph.
- A journey that currently takes an entire day and night will be completed in just two hours.
- This will save both time and money for businesspeople, students, working professionals, and regular passengers.
According to a report by The Times of India, the South Central Railway (SCR) is handling the responsibility of this ambitious project. SCR’s Chief PRO, A. Sridhar, said, “Land acquisition will be a major challenge, for which we will need the support of the state governments. Surveyors are in touch with the chief secretaries of the respective states. Some meetings have also been held in the case of Karnataka. If land acquisition is not possible for a particular alignment, the plan will have to be changed. Therefore, while finalizing the alignment, the views of the state governments will be taken into consideration.”

UAE-India travel: New Mumbai airport to offer passengers more flights, pricing options

Mumbai’s new international airport will open for passengers on September 30, giving UAE and GCC travellers more choices in pricing and flight options.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will handle 90 million passengers annually once fully completed.
By 2032, Mumbai’s two airports – Navi Mumbai and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) – will handle between 140 million and 160 million passengers annually. These two airports will place the Indian financial capital along with global aviation hubs such as Dubai, New York, and London, which have twin airport models.

Dubai houses Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport; London is home to Heathrow and Gatwick, while New York houses JFK and Newark airports.
The twin Mumbai airports will boost connectivity and allow UAE and Indian carriers to increase flights between Mumbai and the UAE, as well as other countries.
These increased frequencies will provide additional opportunities to the Indian nationals and other tourists travelling between the UAE and Mumbai.
A welcome boon
Saj Ahmad, chief analyst at StrategicAero Research, said the new Mumbai airport, Navi Mumbai International Airport, will be a welcome boon for airlines that operate between India and the UAE, particularly with a large number of Indian nationals working in and across the UAE.
“This will mean more flight options and ostensibly, more pricing choice as well – between a mix of full-service airlines like Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Air India, as well as greater competition between flydubai, Air Arabia, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and IndiGo,” said Ahmad.
In June, India’s Akasa Air announced a deal with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL) to commence commercial flight operations from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
Akasa Air will operate 100-plus weekly domestic departures initially, scaling up to 300-plus domestic and over 50 international departures weekly in the winter schedule. The airline is also set to ramp up to 10 parking bases by the end of the 2027 fiscal year, with a focused international expansion into key Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets.
The latest data show that the number of Indians living in the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries has crossed nine million. In the UAE alone, there are 3.7 million Indian nationals.
India remained Dubai International airport’s (DX) largest country market in the first half of 2025 with 5.9 million passengers.
Long-term issue
However, Saj Ahmad pointed out that the bigger long-term issue for NMIA is its eastern location to Mumbai.
“Transport links are nowhere near as modern or efficient enough to move people to and from Navi Mumbai International Airport to downtown Mumbai, whereas the existing airport is a lot closer – it may well be that some passengers elect to avoid Navi Mumbai International Airport in order to save time and money commuting centrally. Given the length of time it takes to get infrastructure projects off the ground, NMIA has it all to do in terms of pulling in traffic – there’s no question it will be a good second airport – but is it enough to be the best?,” he said.
“This is the same quagmire that Sydney faces with the new West Sydney International airport, which is almost 60km away from downtown Sydney – whereas Sydney Kingsford Smith International is just minutes away and has far better infrastructure too,” said Saj Ahmad.
