India urges citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran

The Indian Embassy in Iran has issued a renewed advisory, urging Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to the country due to escalating security concerns in the region. The advisory was shared late Tuesday on the embassy’s official account on the social media platform X.

“In view of the security-related developments over the past several weeks, Indian nationals are advised to carefully consider the evolving situation before undertaking non-essential travel to Iran,” the statement read.
For Indian citizens already residing in Iran, the embassy recommended remaining alert and considering departure through available commercial flights or ferry services. “They are also advised to continue to monitor the latest regional developments and follow updated advisories issued by the Indian authorities,” the embassy added.
Regional Tensions Fuel Safety Concerns
The advisory follows weeks of heightened military conflict in the region, involving Israel, Iran, and the United States. Last month, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, targeting key Iranian nuclear and military sites at Natanz and Fordow. The offensive was followed by Operation Midnight Hammer on June 22, in which the United States struck multiple Iranian facilities.
Iran responded with missile attacks targeting Israel and a US base in Qatar. The 12-day-long conflict ended after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire.
During the hostilities, the Indian Embassy had already issued safety guidelines urging Indian nationals in Iran to limit movement and adhere to security protocols, following reports of explosions and casualties at strategic sites.
International Travel Warnings
Concerns are not limited to India. The US State Department last week launched a public advisory campaign warning American citizens—especially those with Iranian heritage—against travel to Iran. US spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasised that the Iranian government routinely denies consular access to dual nationals and reiterated that, “it is not safe to travel to Iran,” even after the ceasefire.
Embassy Monitoring the Situation
Indian officials continue to monitor developments closely. The embassy has urged Indian citizens currently in Iran to stay connected through its official social media platforms and to follow any future advisories for updates and guidance.
