An e-passport can be applied by any Indian national on usual terms of applying for a ordinary passport. This will involve submission of identity, address and other normal documents like birth certificate or Aadhaar card. Unfortunately, at present, not all passport centers can dispense e-passports.

E-passports are now being issued in cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Nagpur, Goa, Jammu, Shimla, Raipur, Amritsar, Jaipur, and Ranchi. With the rolling out of the initiative, additional stations across the country will eventually start giving e-passports for the general public.
