Google Asks Employees To Use More AI: Adopt Or You Will Be Left Behind In The Tech Race | Technology & Science

Google Asking Employees To Adopt AI
Google has been optimistic towards AI, and that’s a major reason why we are getting to see some decent advancements by the company in the field. However, now the war has reached home as Google has asked its employees to work with artificial intelligence in their day to day roles. The company said that those who fail to do the same will be left behind in an industry where all rivals are already moving faster.
A report published by Business Insider suggested that the firm has asked its employees to use AI for enhanced productivity. One of the engineers from Google told the publication that some staff are positive about the shift, while others are just taking it as another task.
In a meeting that happened last month, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that as the competitors push ahead with AI, Google must rise to the challenge or risk falling behind. He stated, ‘We are competing with other companies in the world.’ He also showed the data to engineers who mentioned a rise in weekly productivity of the latter by 10 per cent since the AI tools rolled out internally in Google.
It’s Not Just About Google
Yes, the rapid adoption of AI is not something that is only happening at Google. Instead, we are getting to see the same thing in other tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and more. Microsoft employees were told that using AI is no longer optional, and Amazon said that corporate headcount will go down as a lot of work is being handled by AI agents.
Shopify went to another level by saying that before requesting for extra staff, the employees have to prove that the work cannot be done by AI. According to Brian Saluzzo, a senior official, Google is working on an internal initiative known as ‘AI Savvy Google.’ One thing that is clear with all this is that Google is not willing to stay behind in the tech race against its competitors.

Oak Lawn Community High School to implement AI gun detection tech – NBC Chicago

A high school in suburban Chicago was awarded a grant to implement AI-powered gun detection technology.
Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 was one of 50 recipients selected nationwide for the Omnilert Secure Schools Grant Program, the school said in a recent announcement.
The district was awarded a three-year license for Omnilert Gun Detect, an “advanced AI-powered gun detection technology” — at no cost.
The AI system identifies firearms “in real-time through existing security camera infrastructure,” the announcement said.
Once a potential threat is identified, the AI system activates a rapid response process by alerting school officials and law enforcement, ultimately ensuring that threats can be addressed “as quickly and effectively as possible,” the announcement said.
The implementation of the AI system aligns with District 229’s security strategy, that includes a combination of physical safety measures, emergency preparedness and mental health resources, the announcement said.
The school said staff training and safety drills will be done to ensure the technology is used effectively and responsibly.
