India’s Longest Glass Skywalk Bridge Is Opening For Travellers In Vishakhapatnam But Here’s Why Anand Mahindra Said He’ll ‘Skip It’ | Travel

India’s Longest Glass Skywalk Bridge Is Opening For Travellers In Vishakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, or Vizag as it’s fondly called, is about to add a new crown jewel to its coastal charm: India’s longest glass skywalk bridge. Perched high on the Kailasagiri Hills, the bridge will soon open to travellers, offering uninterrupted views of the Bay of Bengal, the Eastern Ghats, and Vizag’s skyline.
Even before its official inauguration, the glass bridge has already sparked national buzz, thanks to industrialist Anand Mahindra, who called it “absolutely stunning” on X (formerly Twitter). Yet, in the same breath, he admitted he’ll “skip it,” confessing with good humour that heights and he “have a complicated relationship.”
A Skywalk With A View
The Kailasagiri glass skywalk stretches 55 metres from the hills, placing visitors 862 feet above the ground and 1,000 feet above sea level. Located near the Titanic viewpoint, the bridge promises a heart-racing but breathtaking perspective of Visakhapatnam’s coastline and green hills. While China’s Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge still holds the global record at 430 metres long and 300 metres high, Vizag’s version is not far behind-with a dramatic vertical drop of 262 metres.
Far from being just a photo-op, the skywalk is an engineering feat. Constructed with German-made tempered laminated glass, three 40 mm-thick layers rest on 40 tonnes of steel. It can handle winds up to 250 kmph and hold a load of 500 kg per square metre.
Safety protocols are strict: only 40 visitors will be allowed at a time, with each group spending 5–10 minutes on the deck. Entry fees are expected to range between ₹250 and ₹300—keeping it accessible for both Indian travellers and international tourists.
The Team Behind The Bridge
This ambitious project is a collaboration between SSM Shipping & Logistics (Vizag), Bharat Mata Ventures (Kerala), the team behind the Vagamon Glass Bridge, and the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). With its 55-metre span, it surpasses Vagamon’s 38-metre structure, officially becoming India’s longest glass skywalk bridge.
What Travellers Can Expect
- 360° Views: The Bay of Bengal’s waves on one side, Vizag’s bustling cityscape and the Eastern Ghats on the other.
- Thrill & Calm: A mix of adrenaline-pumping steps and moments of quiet reflection above the sea.
- Photography Haven: A dream spot for photographers and Instagram travellers.
- Night Glow: The bridge will soon be lit up with Tricolour-themed illumination, turning it into a spectacle after sunset.
