Pilgrimage Tourism in India Sees Surge in Premium Travel Trends FY25

Destination Growth Strong
According to the report, accommodation bookings across 56 pilgrimage destinations rose 19% in FY25. Of these, 34 destinations recorded double-digit growth, while 15 exceeded 25%. Leading centres included Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Puri, Amritsar, and Tirupati, alongside emerging destinations like Khatushyam Ji, Omkareshwar, and Thiruchendur.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country, driven by an active monsoon trough and lingering cyclonic circulations, as per the latest All India Weather Forecast Bulletin issued on September 10, 2025. The depression over the northeast Arabian Sea is weakening but still influencing weather patterns, causing isolated heavy downpours expected in Northeast India, East India, and Central India over the next few days.As per the IMD, widespread rainfall is to be expected over Northeast India, East India, and Central India, with isolated to scattered showers anticipated in Northwest India, West India, and South Peninsular India for the next three days. So plan your travels accordingly. If reports are to go by, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are also expected at isolated spots in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, interior Karnataka, Jharkhand, Kerala and Mahe, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, and parts of Uttarakhand. Strong surface winds are also anticipated at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh. These conditions are expected to persist till September 14. Thunderstorms with lightning and winds are expected in these areas.
As per report, West India, including Goa, Maharashtra, parts of Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, will experience isolated light to moderate rain until September 12, with thunderstorms possible. Northwest India, including Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, will see isolated to scattered rain or thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh on September 11-12.The Northeast India region is set for light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at many places, with isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till September 16. In East India, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected at many places over Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim until September 14. Thunderstorms with gusty winds will be common, particularly in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

According to Booking.com, Dubai ranked as the most-searched international travel destination by Indians between January and June 2025. Notably, Dubai attracted nearly 10 million visitors in the first half of 2025, with more than ten per cent of them coming from India.
Several factors contribute to the popularity of Dubai among Indian tourists. Flight tickets are affordable, the visa process is simple, and there are countless recreational options available. Visitors can enjoy shopping at luxury malls, marvel at breathtaking views from the top of the Burj Khalifa—the world’s tallest building, embark on a desert safari, experience the excitement of world-class theme parks, or simply relax by the beach.
The UAE’s no-income tax policy attracts many Indians seeking better work opportunities. According to data from the Indian Embassy in the UAE, as of 2024, around 4.3 million Indians reside in the UAE. Approximately 15% of them live in Abu Dhabi, while the rest are spread across the northern Emirates, including Dubai.
Additionally, the data revealed that Japan emerged as the most searched destination within Asia. Booking.com’s statistics from January to June 2025 indicated that Japan ranked among the top searches in 70 per cent of Asian markets, with Tokyo being the most searched city. Interestingly, Japanese travelers primarily searched within their own country, with Seoul as the only foreign city to make it into their top 10 list.
